Phewww, I don’t know about the rest of you, but it’s taken us a few days to catch our breath after an amazing time in Boston last week. As NACAC newbies, the conference definitely exceeded our expectations in every possible way. Here are a few of our takeaways from last week’s event:
1. Kudos the NACAC Team for putting together an amazing event.
Their team provided excellent exhibitor support. The registration process was seamless. Their materials were well designed and organized. The content covered a huge range of industry-appropriate topics. All-in-all, this was one of the most well-run conferences I’ve ever seen. We were truly impressed by this conference every step of the way and NACAC deserves a round of applause of all of the hard work they put into this event! 👏👏👏
2. College Admissions Counselors have their plates full!
Recruitment, retention, counseling, financial aid, diversity… the list goes on, and on… and ON for counselors. With an ever-expanding workload and new challenges sprouting each year, these teams are doing their best to stay educated on the top of the game. It’s inspiring to be surrounded by individuals who have gathered together to learn and grow!
3. Technology is changing the game – and there are awesome resources available.
It’s undeniable that technology has radically changed higher education and the student experience in the past twenty years. While technology brings its own set of challenges, it’s broken down barriers and provide unparalleled access to so many students. Texting, mobile, video, gamification – it’s exciting to see the breadth of options and creative approaches that academics have taken in regards to admissions and student success. 4. Your students are lucky to have you.
Hang in there with me while I get a little cheesy. These counselors truly care about improving the lives of their students and helping them make the best decisions for their careers and futures. They share ideas, search for best practices, and view their peers as allies instead of competition. They spend hours talking to every vendor to make sure they are providing the best experience they can for their students. People come to NACAC to learn and grow — it’s pretty freaking awesome.
Don’t get me wrong, we were exhausted by Saturday, but we are still glowing from all of the amazing conversations we had last week. If you didn’t get a chance to catch up with the Echovate team on the expo floor, don’t worry! We are always here to have a conversation about measuring emotional and social intelligence in your students or request a demo to see our software in action.
Oh, one last thing, we can’t wait until NACAC 2018! See y’all in Salt Lake City!
